| ISLAMABAD: Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Babar Awan, while regretting that none of the parties in parliament had the two-thirds majority, said on Saturday that the Pakistan Peopleís Party would support a bill if brought unanimously for repealing the 17th Amendment. He was addressing the oath-taking ceremony of the Traders Welfare Association, F-10 Markaz, here. He said the government was following Benazir Bhuttoís policy of national reconciliation and all the issues would be resolved accordingly. He also paid tribute to Lala Afzal Khan. Babar held the “wrong policies of a dictator” responsible for all the issues of governance. “Pakistan is there to live and will remain forever and all the conspiracies being hatched by the anti-social elements would be foiled with the active help of the people,” he said. He said the government was considering the formulation of an alternate dispute resolution law under which small issues would be settled mutually and at the local level. He assured the traders that a water filtration plant would be installed within 20 days. He also directed the concerned station house officer to arrest the culprits involved in a robbery within 10 days. ìTraders themselves should devise a security plan on their own and the government would provide full support to them,î the minister added. He assured the traders of the governmentís commitment to resolve all the issues confronting them. Earlier, speaking on the occasion, MNA Anjum Aqeel Khan said the 18th Amendment bill would be tabled soon after taking on board all the political parties. He said his party would continue its struggle for the promotion of democracy and supremacy of the Constitution. He said as many as 10 water filtration plants would be installed in the current fiscal year out of the 24 proposed for the capital. President of the association Mian Maqbool highlighted the problems being faced by the traders and urged the parliamentarians to resolve these at the earliest. Former MNA Mian Aslam, representatives of the traders and others also spoke on the occasion. |
