The chairman of the Los Angeles-based Pakistani American Sheriff’s Advisory Council (PSAC), Waqar Ali Khan, along with Los Angeles County Sheriff Chief Leroy Baca and a two-member delegation held a briefing on Wednesday at the police office.

The sheriff is on a visit to the country from December 16 to December 20. He was invited by the former Provincial Police Officer (PPO) Sindh (current DG NAB) Azhar Ali Farooqi. During a recent visit to Los Angeles, Farooqi had invited Baca and members of the Advisory Council to visit Sindh and meet the high officials of the Sindh Police Dept to discuss some hardcore issues confronting the region and the country, said a statement.

The PSAC is a liaison between the Pakistani American community and Los Angeles Sheriff Department, which is a key player for advocating issues related to the community after the 9/11 episode. The group consists of more than 15 educated Pakistani Americans.

Sheriff Baca heads the largest police department in America with over 18,000 sheriffs and several hundred city police personnel.

His recent trip comprises visits to Karachi, Sindh, Islamabad and Lahore. During his meetings with officials, the Sheriff and his delegation discussed matters of street crime, bomb disposal and forensic mobile labs as well as setting up stations and command centers.

Baca has proposed a detailed programme that could be in the best interest of Pakistan and Pakistan’s Police Dept. The Sheriff has provided 50 computers to the Sindh Police Dept and also assured the provision of latest equipment to help solve terrorism cases. Besides, four officials of the police dept would be sent for training in fighting street crimes. Similarly, an officer of bomb disposal squad and forensic lab would be sent to US for training.
