| Father shoots daughter for honour By Our Correspondent LAHORE A man shot his 17-year-old daughter for honor on the Lower Mall. The police said that Nazia, the daughter of Hanif, a resident of Mohni Road Mohalla Qureshian, fled with her lover, a Christian boy, some one week ago. On Saturday, she returned home and took poisonous pills fearing a strong reaction from her parents. The girl, who fell unconscious under the drugís effect, was shot dead by her farther. The body was removed to morgue for autopsy. The accused father presented himself before the police for arrest saying that he had killed his daughter over her bad character. A case has been registered against the accused father for killing her daughter. Commits suicide by hanging By our Correspondent LAHORE AN 18-year-old girl identified as Safiana Bibi, the daughter of Aslam, resident of Khokhar Village, committed suicide by hanging herself with a ceiling fan over unknown issue. The police after being informed reached the spot and removed the body to morgue for autopsy. The duty officer of the Sattukatla police said the victim’s family had refused to carry any legal action. The police did not probe into the matter to know the real cause of the death. Clinical course at Children’s Hospital By Our Correspondent LAHORE AN intensive clinical course for the students of FCPS-II Paediatrics is being held at the Children’s Hospital & Institute of Child Health, Lahore, from October 27 to November 1, 2008. It will be organized with the cooperation of College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP). JI urges president to cancel proposed visit to US By Our Correspondent LAHORE Jamaat-e-Islami has demanded of President Asif Ali Zardari to cancel his proposed visit to the US after visiting China in a protest against the violation of the countryís territorial integrity by the American forces. Talking to the media men here on Saturday, Liaquat Baloch said it was time the democratically elected government reversed all the policies of the military dictator. He said Pakistan should suspend the logistic support and intelligence sharing with the US forces and raise the issue of the American aggression in the UN. He said the US government had planned to attack Pakistan in order to win support of the American public for the coming presidential elections. LCWU restarts 2nd shift programme By Our Correspondent LAHORE THE Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) has announced restarting of its second shift programme for the intermediate classes from the ongoing academic session. The decision, in this regard, was taken on special instructions from the Punjab government. LCWU spokesperson Dr Anjum Zia said admissions for FSc (Pre-Engineering & Pre-Medical) in second shift would start from 15 September. People identified under Food Support Scheme \By Our Correspondent LAHORE ON the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, 14,85000 deserving people have been identified under Food Support Scheme in 297 constituencies in Punjab and 5000 poor families from each constituency have been chosen to benefit from Punjab Food Support Scheme. Similarly, 315000 deserving people are being selected through 66 women MPAs and eight minority MPAs so that they could also play their due role in this noble cause. According to a spokesman of Industries Department, 400000 lakh families are being provided financial assistance of Rs.1000 each since August 14 through money orders in the first phase while 600000 deserving people will benefit in the second phase starting from September 15. 15-day deadline for removal of hoardings By Our Correspondent LAHORE THE Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), Lahore, has directed all the advertising companies to remove their hoardings whose contracts expired on June 30, 2008. The PHA, through notices issued on Saturday, directed the advertising companies concerned to remove their hoardings within 15 days, otherwise, the authority itself would remove the hoardings and it would not be responsible for any damage to the hoardings. According to the PHA spokesman, the auction of advertisement sites would be held as per directions of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Moreover tenders would be invited through advertisements in newspapers for the auction of the sites, he added. ‘Govt to provide quality items at controlled rates’ By Our Correspondent LAHORE DISTRICT Coordination Officer (DCO), Lahore, Sajjad Ahmad Bhutta has said the government is determined to provide quality edible items to people at controlled rates. He expressed these views while addressing an Iftar dinner organized by Ali Abbaz, Town Municipal Officer (TMO), Aziz Bhatti Town, with the cooperation of philanthropists for the poor people of Ghaziabad on Saturday. ‘No power shortage in LESCO areas’ By Our Correspondent LAHORE THE Spokesman of Pakistan Electric Power Company has claimed that there is no power shortage and power disruption in the areas of Lahore Electric Supply Company. He maintained that there was no loadshedding in the country, as the power supply matched the demand. He clarified that Karachi was an exception that was served by Karachi Electric Supply Company. The spokesman, however, cautioned that the requirement for loadshedding might return in case there was a quick jump in demand. |
