| Karachi Touching scenes were witnessed, scenes that could bring tears to the eyes of even the most stone-hearted, as a sobbing Ms Amna Masood Janjua pleaded for the release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, who is currently being tried in a court by the US government. The rally was held in front of the Karachi Press Club Friday afternoon by The Defence of Human Rights. The speech by Ms Amna Masood Janjua, who is a close relative of Abdul Karim a person who himself had been missing for a long time, brought tears to the eyes of almost all the participants. All the women present in the rally were sobbing and wiping their tears when Ms Janjua narrated the five years of incarceration and later all the unparalleled atrocities allegedly being perpetrated on the unfortunate lady. Even children, holding aloft portraits of their missing fathers and other next-of-kin could not control their tears. Ms Amna made a touching appeal to the US military authorities not to bully the frail emaciated, dying Dr Aafia, any more. Others who spoke heaped scathing criticism on the US. Terming the US’ authorities’ behaviour despicable beyond words, they said that the US had no business to talk of Human Rights. They said US’ talk of Human Rights was an exercise in superlative hypocrisy, something that had been proved beyond words by the bullyboy treatment meted out to a respectable, innocent Pakistani lady, Dr Aafia Siddiqui. |
