| Karachi Iqbal Haider, the Co-chairperson of Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has expressed concern about the development in the status of the case and condition of Dr Aafia Siddiqui. In a statement issued on Wednesday, he said that it is shocking and a matter of grave concern for the HRCP that the pictures of Siddiqui published in the electronic and print media shows a beat-up frail and fragile woman, showing her helplessness. A close look at the picture shows the years of torture, dark circles under her eyes, a badly fixed broken nose, made up teeth and crumbled lips, the statement added. “It is a picture of a severely dehydrated, sick person almost as if on the death bed. It shows the inhumane brutality of an apparently civilised nation by the administration of a country which claims to be much civilised,” the statement said. According to the Council and Siddiqui’s family members, she is reported to be sick and needs immediate medical treatment. After meeting with her, Siddiqui’s family lawyer said: “Her wound was oozing blood.” She was reported to be in pain while her clothes were soaked in blood. Dr Siddiqui needs medical attention out of prison facilities, and an immediate release otherwise her life will remain in serious danger, the HRCP leader said. It is also reported that one of Dr Siddiqui’s kidneys was removed while she was in custody of the US Authorities. Senator Haider has urged upon the US and Pakistani government and Pakistan Embassy in Washington to ensure that Dr Aafia Siddiqui may immediately be admitted in a hospital, examined by a board of doctors and provided all the necessary treatment to save her life. He also urged that Dr Aafia Siddiqui should be provided Halal food as desired by her. The children of Dr Aafia, who were arrested along with her should be released by the US authority forthwith. The 3 children are the US citizen who deserved to be provided all the protection and relief that any other American citizen deserved. The US authority must also allow her brother and friends, relations to meet with Dr Aafia Siddiqui. Senator Haider has also requested the Pakistan Embassy in Washington to provide services of a competent expert and trustworthy lawyer who is an expert in criminal cases to advise, help and assist Dr Aafia Siddiqui in her trial in respect of the alleged charged and offences, now being propagated by the US administration. |
