The relocation of the neurosurgery and the ophthalmology wards at the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) to make space for the “Accidents and Emergency Centre and Ancillary Services Complex” would be expedited and all financial matters would be resolved after formalities are fulfilled, CHK officials said Wednesday.

The decision was taken at the 22nd meeting of the CHK board of governors. The government would be asked to revise the estimates in the current budget for different heads. Moreover, the Poor Patients Aid Society at the CHK will be asked to facilitate the running of the generator and the School of Nursing’s academic activities.

The government will also be asked for the urgent release of maintenance and repair funds and the posting of an XEN. Participants of the meeting also decided that a new laundry plant, a telephone exchange, monitors for the CCU, as well as other equipment and furniture will be purchased soon with the consent of end-users at the Lyari General Hospital (LGH). Philanthropists will arrange for a new telephone exchange at the CHK.
