Renowned composer Robin Ghosh passes away

ISLAMABAD: Renowned musician and music composer Robin Ghosh has died in Dhaka after a protracted illness on Saturday at the age of 76.

He was the husband of film actress Shabnam. Ghosh and Shabnam were among the most successful couples of the Pakistani film industry. 

Ghosh gained fame in the mid 1960s when Ahmed Rushdie sang his compositions in films like Chakori, Jahan Tum Wahan Hum, Paisa and others.

Ghosh, who had remained in Pakistan after the creation of his native Bangladesh, also contributed greatly to the Pakistani film industry. Among many memorable scores, he composed the songs for the film Aaina, one of the most successful films ever made in the Pakistan film Industry.

Monitoring report: One of the most famous musicians of the subcontinent Robin Ghosh died in Bangladesh today (Saturday).

Sources said that he had been ill since a quite long time and passed away in Dhaka on Saturday. The star composer tied the knot with famed actress Shabnam in the 1960s.

Ghosh was born in Iraq’s capital Baghdad in 1939 and got his early education in a convent school. He showed great interest in music, collecting gramophone records and playing the harmonium, and finally graduated with a music major from Dhaka. Honouring the services of the legendary musician, six Nigaar awards were conferred on him.
