Former governor of Herat abducted in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: A former governor of Herat, a province in Afghanistan, Faizullah, has been abducted mysteriously.The Afghan embassy in Islamabad has informed the foreign office.As per media reports, unidentified persons abducted the former governor from Rana market, a commercial centre in the federal capital, the police said

 

Arrest warrants issued for bank officials

LAHORE: The Special Judge Banking Crime has issued arrest warrants for Summit Bank President and CEO Husain Lawai for continuously not appearing before the court.  Special Judge Banking Crime Abdul Qayyum heard the case. Counsel for the petitioner Ghulam Murtaza Chaudhry informed the court that the management of Summit Bank is involved in financial corruption and the banks’s president and CEO Hussain Lowai is not appearing in the court despite court notices.  The court ordered to arrest Summit Bank President and CEO Husain Lawai and produce him before it.

 

Three terrorists arrested

from Mand area of Turbat

TURBAT: The Frontier Corps (FC) and intelligence agencies have arrested three terrorists in a joint operation from the Mand area of Turbat on Friday. According to the spokesperson for the FC, security agencies conducted an operation in the Mand area and apprehended three operatives of a banned outfit. Huge cache of weapons, communication equipment, binoculars and military uniforms were seized from their possession. Earlier on Thursday, the FC and police arrested 10 suspects and seized weapons from their possession.

 

Three minor girls die of suffocation in Haripur

HARIPUR: Three minor girls, including two sisters, died of suffocation in Sikandarpur village here, locals said on Friday. The local people said that Razia Bibi was living with her two daughters in a rented house in Mohallah Daudabad near Darband Adda. She had gone for medical check-up and left her two daughters identified as Ayesha aged 5, Sana, 7, and her niece Zainab, aged 5 at home. The girls had switched on a gas heater to warm themselves. It was learnt that the girls had fallen asleep and a quilt caught fire and the room was filled with smoke. Resultantly, the girls died of suffocation.

 

Punjab cop shot dead in Nowshera

NOWSHERA: A cop of the Punjab Police was killed and his two colleagues sustained injuries when unidentified gunmen opened fire on their car near Pashtoon Ghari here on Friday, police sources said. The injured cop, Muhammad Bilal, belonging to Sheikhupura district, told the police that he along with his colleagues, Muhammad Shahbaz and guard Irfan, was on his way to Peshawar to see their friend, Sajid, in their car (LED-3638) when unidentified persons traveling in a car opened fire on them. He said Muhammad Shahbaz was killed on the spot while he and his colleague, Irfan, sustained injuries. It was learnt that the slain cop had an old enmity in his village. The police registered the case and started an investigation.

 

Two injured in Hub hand-grenade blast

QUETTA: At least two persons were injured in a hand-grenade blast in the Hub area of Lasbella district on Friday. According to Levies sources, unidentified men hurled a hand-grenade on the house of Nasrullah in Jam Colony, which went off, leaving two persons injured on the spot. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital. Law-enforcement agencies cordoned off the entire area to trace out the suspects. Meanwhile, three suspects were arrested by security forces during a search operation in the Sariab area on Friday. The suspects were shifted to an undisclosed location for further investigation. –APP/Online

 

Rs22,675 increment proposed in Haj expenses

ISLAMABAD: At least 22,675 rupees increment has been proposed for the Haj expenses as compared to last year while the expense of stay and food for Haj pilgrims in Madina and Makkah is also likely to be increased. According to a private news channel, Haj pilgrims’ expenses belonging to Northern Areas were proposed at 287,646 rupees while 278,640 rupees for southern areas’ Haj pilgrims. The airfare for Haj pilgrims belonging to the Northern Areas was proposed at Rs98,700 while Rs79,700 for the southern areas. At least 21,000 rupees increment is also under consideration for stay and food expenses of Haj pilgrims in Makkah and Madina. Currency Exchange rate was proposed to Rs29.50 for Haj.

 

Patwari arrested in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: The Anti-Corruption Establishment has arrested a Patwari, Faisal Aftab, of Haripur district, over corruption charges. He allegedly took Rs20,000 bribe from one Muzaffar Khan for attestation of a mutation, said a communiqué. The anti-corruption team comprising Aslam Nawaz Khan, assistant director crimes, Waris Khan, circle officer, in the presence of Magistrate Sardar Janwad Ahmad arrested the accused along with the tainted money. A first information report (FIR) was registered and an investigation started in the matter.

 

Police officers reshuffled in KP

PESHAWAR: Authorities transferred a number of police officers on Friday. According to a notification, Syed Atiq Shah was posted sub-divisional police officer Hashtnagri, Mohammad Afzal was posted SDPO, Hayatabad, Zahir Shah as SDPO Lower Dir, Hidayatullah as SDPO at Timergara, Afsar Zaman as SDPO Saidu Sharif, Murad Khan as SDPO Upper Dir. Similarly, Tahir Rahman was posted at the Central Police Office and Bashir Khan in the Malakand Range.

 

Cop injured in Nowshera gunfire

NOWSHERA: A cop sustained injuries in an exchange of gunfire with suspected persons in Qasim Killay in Pabbi Tehsil, sources said. The sources said the police were tipped off about a group of suspected persons spotted in Qasim Killay. The police reached the village where the gunmen opened fire on them. The police also returned the fire and the clash continued for sometime in which a cop Mubassar sustained injuries. The police arrested one of the accused identified as Iftikhar, a resident of Urmar in Peshawar, while others managed to escape.

PESHAWAR: Armed men shot dead one person in Landi Arbab here on Friday. The police said Anisur Rahman was shot dead early Friday morning in the limits of Bhanamari Police Station. The deceased was an employee at the airport. The police have started investigation into the case.
