Pakistani Muslim lady to join Las Vegas Police

Farhat Zahoor Abbasi who earned distinction of becoming the first Pakistan Muslim lady to join Las Vegas Police Department  wanted to do a job where she could present a soft image of Pakistan and Muslims.

“ When I introduced myself as a Pakistani and as a Muslim, people were surprised to see me in the police academy and many felt that I shall not be able to complete my training since it is very hard,” Farhat Abbasi who completed her training winning gold medal at the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Academy (LVMPD) Academy said.

She also stood at number six out of 3,000 candidates and when on to show her metal at the academy during the next seven months.

Farhat Abbasi was born in Malkot village of district Abbottabad, getting initial education in Rawalpindi and moved to the United States just 13 years back. She married to Mujtaba Zubair who is an oral surgeon.

Farhat who is mother of three kids went to through seven-month intense training at the police academy. “ LVMPD Academy is one of the toughest academy in US. There were many times when I felt like I will not be able to complete my training but at the same time I will tell myself I am here to stay and I am here to succeed,” she said.

She recalled that there were days when she had to give 10 to 12 hour at the academy and after that tons of homework and then start another tough training at academy, next day.  “ I earned my badge it was like a dream come true at the same time my cam with tons of responsibly and accountability,” she said.

Farhat said when she introduced herself as Pakistani and as a Muslim, people were surprised to see him in the academy. “ I had to answer some really silly question which made me laugh like whether women in Pakistan are allowed to drive? Can girls go to school? Is Pakistan desert and dry mountains,” she said.  She said she would love to answer all those questions and show them all what real Pakistan is since people only know Pakistan men always burn women faces because Oscar Awards winners only show that to people.

Farhat Abbasi said she also told her academy that in last 12 years Pakistan lost more than 80,000 civilians including men, women and children in war on terror.

She want to serve her community which and pay back to it which she said gave her all the love, respect and acceptance. “I need prayers from everyone for my successful career with Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department,” she requested.
