Operation Zarb-e-Azb helped improve law, order situation: Mamnoon

Meets cadets of all armed forces

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain Thursday said that Pakistan was passing through critical times and emphasised that Operation Zarb-e-Azb would continue till complete elimination of the last terrorist from the country.He lauded the sacrifices rendered by the armed forces, adding that law and order situation was improving as a result of Operation Zarb-e-Azb.

Addressing the cadets of armed forces belonging to Army, Navy and Air Force who called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, he said that the government was committed to make the defence of the country invincible and in this regard requirements of the Armed Forces would be met. He exhorted the young cadets to serve their homeland with zeal and dedication and keep themselves abreast of issues to effectively meet the challenges.

He said that economic policies of the government were in the right direction and as a result there was a discernible turnaround in the national economy thereby creating favourable environment for foreign investment. He further said that corruption had eroded the foundation of the country and stressed that the revival of state institutions and resuscitation of economy of the country was premised on the rooting out of the menace of corruption.

He said that the government was concertedly making efforts to promote national integration and called upon the people to foil machinations of the anti-state elements to create provincial, linguistic and religious rifts and emphasised for forging unity in our ranks to achieve peace and prosperity.

He called upon the young cadets to uphold the highest standards of integrity and always be prepared for defending the frontiers of the country. “You should serve your motherland like a true Pakistani by rising above ethnic and racial discrimination and always keep the interests of your country supreme above everything”, he remarked. He urged the cadets to always respect their teachers and parents.

He had candid discussion with the cadets and answered their questions on the current situation in the country.Later, President Mamnoon Hussain and UN Secretary General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development Queen Maxima of the Netherlands have expressed optimism that Pakistan’s future is bright and the country is on the path to progress, adding that the pace of progress can be further expedited by ensuring access of common man to fruits of progress and financial resources.

In a meeting at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, the president said that overall situation in the country was improving and the economy was stabilising and the benefits are being passed on to the common man. He said that the economic policies of Pakistan pivoted on the inclusion of common man in the progress of the country, adding that the country was endowed with the skilled human resource that could be utilised for the benefit of the country by facilitating their access to the financial resources.

He said that Pakistan was a victim of the decades old conflicts in the region and sixty thousand civilians and the officials of law enforcement agencies embraced martyrdom in its wake. “In addition, Pakistan has borne the financial losses of more than $100 billion as a result of this turmoil,” he added.

He urged upon the World Bank and other international institutions to support Pakistan in surmounting the problems and to usher in prosperity in the country.

On the occasion, Queen Maxima hoped that the benefits of economic policies initiated by the government of Pakistan would be passed on to the common man to improve their living standard. She appreciated the programmes started by the government in order to make the common man particularly women and youth play their due role in the society and said that these steps would bring positive results for the country.

She praised the China Pakistan Economic Corridor and hoped that it would bring prosperity and stability in the region.On the occasion, Queen’s members of delegation, Ashraf Mahmood Wathra, Governor, State Bank of Pakistan Dr Waqar Masood Khan, Secretary Ministry of Finance and other high officials were also present in the meeting.
