WHO team visits Thalassaemia Centre

Islamabad: A delegation from World Health Organisation (WHO) led by Head of Blood Safety Unit Dr. Yetmgeta Abdella visited Pakistan Thalassaemia Centre, Fatima Jinnah Park, Islamabad. Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal (PBM) Managing Director Barrister Abid Waheed Sheikh welcomed the delegation and gave a detailed briefing on the ongoing projects of Pakistan Bait ul Maal.

He briefed that Pakistan Thalassaemia Centre (PTC) was extending quality healthcare facilities free of cost to the poor thalassaemia patients of the country. Dr. Yetmgeta Abdella made his visit to all sections of PTC including medical lab and reception. During his visit to treatment ward, he met with patients under treatment there and inquired about their health.

He was of the view that it is high time such endeavours be undertaken in Pakistan by taking the lead of Managing Director PBM Barrister Abid Waheed Sheikh who has come up as a beacon of light for poor patients of Thalassaemia and deprived persons of the country. He said that today’s event will guide us towards further joint efforts in social sector. Barrister Abid Waheed Sheikh, on this occasion, said these patients also need blood transfusions on regular basis. In order to cope up with the growing need of blood, the citizens specially youth must regularly donate blood so as to help children dependent on blood transfusions to live healthy lives. Barrister Abid Waheed also urged people to get themselves and their partners tested for the disease before contracting marriage, so as to plan their family lives accordingly.
