‘Misbehaviour’ with senior lawyer

LHC CJ seeks report; assures lawyers of strict action against responsible

LAHORE: The legal fraternity has announced boycott of courts across Punjab on Wednesday (today) against misbehaviour with lawyers, hurling abuses and manhandling various lawyers by the police and the petitioner.

The senior lawyer had asked the police not to put the handcuffs on an accused at the courtroom door after cancellation of his bail by the Lahore High Court. Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) President Pir Masood Chishti told a hurried called meeting that the LHC had cancelled the pre-arrest bail of an accused.

The police tried to put the handcuffs on the accused at the courtroom door. The lawyers brought the issue into the notice of the judge, who barred the police from it. However, the police and the complainant party comprising 15-20 people not only encircled the accused but also the senior lawyers. They beat up the lawyers meanwhile.

The LHC chief justice has, meanwhile, taken notice of misbehaviour and manhandling of lawyers at the hands of Gujranwala’s Aroop police station officials at the court of Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan in Lahore. He has sought a report from the authorities concerned. Talking to a lawyers delegation, led by LHCBA President Pir Masood Chishti, that strict action would be taken against those responsible for such an incident at the court premises.
