Inflated gas

By our correspondents
February 09, 2016

Gas and electricity consumers have been receiving inflated bills with accumulated units. We have noted a disparity of hundreds of rupees in our bills. The staff at the complaint centres told people that they had been getting estimated bills for the past three to four months because no meter readings were done and the bill is higher because after meter reading was done, the units that were accumulated during the past four months fell into higher slab rates.

I have received a bill of Rs16,620 for using just one gas heater, one water heater and one kitchen stove. This high figure is due to the accumulation of units during the past four months and now I have to pay at Rs600 per unit instead of Rs110 or Rs120 per unit. The same is the case with electricity bills. By this delaying tactic, gas and electricity utilities are forcing consumers to pay four to five times more than the normal rates. This is broad daylight robbery. It is sad that government-owned companies are defrauding the citizens so blatantly. Ogra and Nepra are requested to investigate this issue and bring the culprits to justice.
