Anomaly alleged in appointment of UC secretaries

PESHAWAR: The candidates, who have passed the National Testing Service (NTS) examination for secretaries in the village and neighbourhood councils, on Monday protested the alleged appointment of favourites.Led by the councillor Alamzeb Yousafzai, the protestors accused the provincial local government minister and deputy commissioner of appointing “blue-eyed” people instead of those who had qualified the NTS test. They warned of launching a protest movement if their demands were not met.

 

Rs620m approved for HU: minister

MANSEHRA: Federal Minster for Hajj and Interfaith Harmony Sardar Mohammad Yousuf has said the federal government approved Rs620 million for completing the construction work of academic blocks of the Hazara University (HU).“The federal government has approved Rs620 million for construction of left-over work of various projects and soon the money will be transferred to university account,” he said while talking to Vice-Chancellor Dr Habib Ahmad during his visit to university on Monday.

 

Several suspects arrested in Swabi

SWABI: The Swabi Police in a joint operation with the Pakistan Army on Monday arrested 125 suspects.  Javed Iqbal, District Police Officer, told the media the police from Mardan district also participated in the operation which started at 5am and continued till 9am.The operation was conducted in the areas of the Razaar Tehsil, which the law-enforcing and secret agencies had termed troubled. The operation was conducted in Managi, Sheikh Jana, Asota, Parmuli and Shewa areas. He said arms were also recovered from the arrested persons. The arrested suspects were shifted to different locations.

 

Councillors join PTI in Nowshera

NOWSHERA: Several councillors on Monday announced joining the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) in the district.The councillors including nazim of Marhati Village Council-I Sarzamin Khan, naib nazim Haroon Khan, councillors Afzal Khan, Waqas Khan, Habibullah and Samiullah while naib nazim of Village Council Islamabad Koroona Jamshid, Majid, Muhammad Nabi and Qari Nazeer quit the Awami National Party and joined the PTI in a public meeting.Two other independent councillors Noorul Amin and Muhammad Hussain also joined the PTI on the occasion. District Nazim Liaqat Khattak was present on the occasion.

 

MPA leads protest against RTA in Dir

CHAKDARA: The transporters staged a protest against the transport authority for what they termed issuing of ‘unjust tickets’ in Malakand division.The transporters alleged that the authority issued tickets of more than Rs5000 to motorists and truckers plying roads in Lower Dir.Led by Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Bakht Baidar Khan, the protesters said that officials of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) had forced the transporters to stage the protest.Officials of the district administration, RTA, security forces held talks with the protesters who had blocked the main road.After assurance from the RTA officials that they would not take any action without permission from district administration, the protesters dispersed peacefully.

 

Shifting of oil refinery resented

PESHAWAR: Khattak Students Association has asked Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and Chief Minister Pervez Khattak to withdraw decision of shifting oil refinery from Karak to Kohat.Speaking at a joint news conference at the Peshawar Press Club on Monday, the association’s president Adnan Khattak, Zafar Ali Khattak, Waleed Khattak, Majid Mumtaz and others said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is in the grip of terrorism. They said the local population was not getting any benefits out of the national resources. They said that natural gas was available in huge quantity but the government had decided to shift the oil refinery from Karak to Kohat.

NOWSHERA: The police on Monday arrested a proclaimed offender in Nowshera Kalan, an official said.The official, Akhtar Nasir, said that the police arrested an accused identified as Gul Zeb from Nowshera Kalan.

 

Ad-hoc lecturers seek regularisation

PESHAWAR: The ad-hoc lecturers set up a protest camp outside the Peshawar Press Club on Monday, demanding the government to regularise their services.Led by Afsar Khan, the protestors announced to continue the protest. They said that 215 lecturers, including men and women, were performing duties at various colleges since their appointment in 2014 and they need to be regularised.

Two die of gas explosion

BANNU: Two persons were killed in an explosion inside a shop in the limits of the Haveed Police Station on Monday, official sources said.They said Dil Nawaz Khan and Shamsur Rehman were killed when an explosion took place inside an auto puncture shop.However, it could not be confirmed that either it was a bomb or a gas cylinder blast. The police and other law-enforcers reached the spot and started investigation.
