Hospital sealed after recovery of expired medicines

LAHORE

A special team of City District Government Lahore (CDGL) has sealed a trust hospital after recovery of expired life saving and other medicines here Monday.

Officials said the CDGL team led by Akbar Amin Chopra raided on the hospital in the Harbanspura area and found that the doctors and paramedical staffers examining patients were not qualified. A person named Aziz was examining patients but he was not a doctor, officials said, adding that a big quantity of expired medicines, including several life saving drugs were also recovered from the hospital. The CDGL team sealed the hospital and got a case registered against the owner of the hospital while the quack was also arrested and handed over to the police.

Another team of CDGL launched an operation against the people who were selling meat to citizens for the purpose of Sadqa. Lahore DCO said that they threw the meat in the open places, which is resulting in environmental degradation and other health related issues.

Meanwhile, an anti-encroachment team of CDGL launched an operation against encroachments in Johar Town and confiscated counters and other goods of hotels and other encroachers. 

influenza treatment: Adviser on Health Kh.Salman Rafique presided over a meeting to review steps for the treatment and eradication of seasonal diseases and H1N1 influenza at the Civil Secretariat on Monday.

According to a handout, Secretary Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Najam Ahmed Shah, Secretary Primary and Secondary Health Ali Jan Khan, Special Secretary Finance Department Chaudhry Usman, Director General Health Dr. Mukhtar Hussain Shah, Dean Institute of Public Health Prof. Moaz Ahmed and Director CDC Dr. Habib-ur-Rehman were also present. The meeting was told that during the last 48 hours, no patient of seasonal influenza had been reported and the disease had subsided considerably.

The meeting was told that the Health Department had purchased 72,500 capsules of Tamiflu for the treatment of H1N1 influenza, which would be useable up to 2019. The Health Department has prepared a diseases calendar for the whole year and a campaign through media will be launched for creating awareness among people before the outbreak of any seasonal disease. Disease alert and guidelines will also be issued to public and private doctors through SMS and social media.

Kh. Salman Rafique told the media that the Health Department would soon introduce vaccine of Rota virus with the cooperation of the GAVI under the EPI programme for protecting children from diarrhea. He said  Punjab was the first province of Pakistan which had taken this step.

The adviser health said besides treatment, government was also implementing a comprehensive programme for prevention of diseases so that society could be made free from diseases. He said community’s role was of great importance in this regard.
