The Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) has planned to buy 200 buses for the government schools and colleges in Islamabad mostly to the benefit of the students from distant areas.

According to a relevant CADD official, the new buses will cost Rs1.5 billion.

"We're in discussion with different automobile companies hoping things will be finalised soon," he said.

The official said the buses would be supplied to the educational institutions within the next six months.

The CADD oversees Islamabad Capital Territory's government schools and colleges totaling 422 through the Federal Directorate of Education.

Currently, Islamabad's government schools and colleges have around 180 buses in total.

The official also said an amount of Rs7 billion was being spent on Islamabad's 22 government schools and colleges in the first phase of the Prime Minister’s Educational Reforms Programme to upgrade or put up buildings, computer laboratories, playgrounds and other facilities. He said 200 educational institutions would be covered in the programme's second phase and the rest in the third phase.
