KP Assembly adjourned for lack of quorum

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly session was adjourned without any proceedings due to lack of quorum on Friday.Deputy Speaker Dr Meher Taj Roghani was chairing the assembly session for the first time after her election on December 22. However, Noor Salim Khan of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) pointed out to the lack of quorum soon after recitation from the Holy Quran.The Speaker Asad Qaiser ordered ringing of the bells for five minutes and then the counting of the members present in the House was done. Since the House was short of quorum as only 21 members out of 125 were present, the Speaker announced adjourning the session till Monday.

 

Jordanian pilot dies of cardiac arrest

SIALKOT: Ahmad Diwari, a Jordanian pilot, died of cardiac arrest in a private clinic here on Friday.According to police sources, Ahmad Diwari, who was serving in the Askari Aviation, arrived from Islamabad and after parking the plane at the Sialkot International Airport on Friday morning, felt severe pain in his chest. He was rushed to a clinic on the Commissioner Road but he died of cardiac arrest. The body of Ahmad was sent to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH).

 

Boy hangs himself for Rs 50

MULTAN: A dejected 10-year-old boy who hanged himself after his parents refused him pocket money was laid to rest at Khawaja village, Jalalpur Pirwala, on Friday. Muhammad Junaid (10) hanged himself to death with a ceiling fan when his parents refused to give him pocket money on Thursday night. He had demanded Rs 50 for refreshment. Jalalpur Sadr police officials said.

 

BHAKKAR: The district coordination officer has approved the construction of 23 new link roads under the Annual Development Programme in the district.

 

Suspected militant killed in DI Khan

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A suspected militant was killed in an encounter with the police in the Kulachi tehsil of the Dera Ismail Khan district, officials said on Friday.

They said that acting on information about the presence of the militants, the police launched a search operation in Kot Sultan area in Kulachi. They said the militants fired at the cops, who also returned the fire. They said that a militant identified as Shahid alias Danial was killed in the exchange of fire. They said the police seized a Kalashnikov, two hand-grenades, dozens of cartridges and motorbike after the action. It was learnt that the slain militant had fled during the Dera Ismail Khan jailbreak in 2013 and was wanted by the law-enforcers for the murder of Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Bahawal Khan and other acts of terrorism.

 

Centre asked to include Mansehra in PM Health Programme

MANSEHRA: The federal government was asked to include the Mansehra district in the Prime Minster Health Programme so that the poor people of the district could also be benefited from the programme. Talking to reporters here on Friday, Malik Niamatullah advocate, a former president of Tehsil Bar Association, Oghi, said that healthcare services under the PM’s s Health Programme had not yet been extended to people of Mansehra.He said that launching of PM health programme was a great step in the right direction but the federal government should also take serious measures to bring high expenses affordable.

 

 Four Pakistanis killed in Syria fighting

KOHAT: Four persons reportedly belonging to Kurram Agency were recently killed in the fighting in Syria, sources said. The sources said the bodies of these men had been shifted to their native villages for burial.

 

Nadra Mardan office still closed after attack

MARDAN: The office of the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) is still closed even after eleven days of the suicide attack that left more than 27 people dead and 74 wounded. The Nadra administration has not started the repair work yet. The local people are facing problems due to the closure of Nadra office. However, sources said that Nadra office in Mardan was being shifted to some other suitable and secure place.

 

Six killed in Shangla road accident

BISHAM: Six persons were killed and another was injured when a van fell into a ravine in Shangla district on Friday. Locals said that a passenger van (SH-2213) was heading to Krora from Bisham when it fell into a ravine while negotiating a turn at Karai.Six persons identified as Saidur Rehman, Zardad, Shah Pasand, Bazeer Khan, Habibullah and Ayan Khan were killed on the spot while the driver sustained injuries.Following the incident, the locals and police reached the spot and shifted the bodies and injured to the District Headquarters Hospital in Alpuri.

 

EPI technician shot dead in Charsadda

CHARSADDA: Unidentified motorcyclists shot dead a technician of the Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI) in Quaidabad areas adjacent to Malakand Agency, official sources said on Friday. The sources said that armed men riding a motorcycle shot dead Anwar Baig, an EPI technician at the Dargai Hospital, in Quaidabad when he was on way back home after duty.The attackers fled the scene after killing the EPI technician. The police registered a case and started investigation. In November EPI District Coordinator for Swabi Dr Yaqoob was shot dead and his driver injured when unidentified assailants opened fired on his car.

 

Two held in Hangu, Peshawar actions

PESHAWAR: The Special Police Unit in Hangu arrested an alleged terrorist carrying head money of Rs2 million while an extortionist was rounded up in Peshawar. A press release of the KP Police said Pir Shakirullah was wanted by the police in a number of terrorist attacks in Hangu. The press release said that Peshawar Police also rounded up one Khair Wali for collecting extortion from locals.

 

Four tribal policemen got shoulder promotion for their performance in Landikotal They included Qais Shinwari, Ishrat Shinwari, Javed Shalmani and Dildar Shalmani.

 

Huts of nomads reduced to ashes

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: At least 20 makeshift dwellings of nomads were reduced to ashes in Dera Ismail Khan city, police officials said on Friday.They said that a fire broke out in a makeshift structure and spread to other huts within no time. They said that the personnel of the fire-brigade reached the spot and extinguished the fire. They said that 20 makeshift structures were reduced to ashes. However, no casualty was caused.
