Zardari elected PPPP president; Khursheed says Governor’s Rule
in Sindh not a joke; Aitzaz claims Dr Asim not a terrorist
DUBAI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Farooq H Naek on Sunday ruled out moving the Supreme Court (SC) against the federal government’s unilateral decision to extend the powers of the Sindh Rangers.
Talking to a private news channel from Dubai, the former minister said that he consulted former president Asif Ali Zardari about the legal aspects of the extension of the Rangers’ powers in Sindh but they had not yet decided to move the court against it.
The issue of the extension in the Rangers’ powers had not yet been resolved between Sindh and the federal government. Farooq Naek arrived in Dubai upon PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari’s invitation and discussed the extension issue in detail.
Farooq Naek said that the meeting discussed the legal aspects of the extension given to the Rangers’ powers in Sindh. He said that Asif Ali Zardari was briefed about the legal options available regarding the extension. He said that consultations had been made but no decision had yet been reached to move the apex court against the extension.
Naek said that he had also discussed other political, legal and administrative matters with Asif Ali Zardari during the meeting.Meanwhile, PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari has been elected as President of the PPP-Parliamentarians which is registered with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) as a separate political party and legally represents lawmakers who are commonly known to be of the PPP.
Earlier, Asif Ali Zardari or Bilawal Bhutto Zardari were not legal or technical patrons of PPPP which means they have no-legal control over parliamentarians in National Assembly or Senate or even those who are running government in Sindh.
Late Amin Faheem was heading the party as president however after his death Zardari became its president.Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah said on Sunday imposing Governor’s Rule in Sindh was not a joke.
He attended a ceremony in Sukkur held in the remembrance of Benazir Bhutto. The event was organised by children of Sweet Home. While talking to media, Khursheed Shah said that Benazir Bhutto gave her life for democracy.
He advised the rulers not to make such decisions again which might cause damage to democracy, state and federation.Khursheed Shah said that imposing Governor’s rule in Sindh was not a joke as the federation would have to pay for it later. He urged not to use force against Sindh and asked Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to review the matters of politics himself.
Earlier, PPP leader Aitzaz Ahsan said that Dr Asim Hussain was not a terrorist as the PPP could not be blamed for terrorism. Addressing the gathering on the occasion of 8th death anniversary of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto here, Aitzaz Ahsan said Dr Asim’s case did not fall in the constitutional domain of the Rangers.
“If charges of corruption proved against Dr Asim, PPP will not try to become hurdle in his punishment,” he added. He said, “According to PPP manifesto, Islam is our religion, democracy is our politics and people are the source of real power.”Aitzaz Ahsan said Benazir Bhutto believed in socialism. “We have to return to the slogan of socialism because it takes care of the needs of even the poor,” he added.
