Sindh’s opposition parties decided on Saturday to launch a movement against the provincial government from January 9.

At a meeting of key opposition leaders at Jatoi House with Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi in the chair, it was decided to build a pressure group against the Pakistan People’s Party’s government.

The participants of the meeting agreed to launch a movement to compel the PPP government to completely restore Rangers’ policing powers in Karachi so that the paramilitary force could continue maintaining peace in the city without any hindrance.

The meeting was attended by Murtaza  Jatoi, Ayaz Latif Palejo, Sadruddin Shah Noorani, Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, Dr Zulfiqar Mirza, Jalal Mehmood Shah, Irfanullah Marwat, Ghous Bux Mehar, Liaquat Jatoi, Ismail Rahu, Nadir Akmal Leghari, Shaharyar Mehar, Jam Karim, Shafi Jamote, Jam Madad, Ibrahim Jatoi, Ameer Bhutto, Safdar Abbasi, and Naheed Khan. Various resolutions were also adopted in the meeting in which the parties vowed to unite against the PPP government and strive hard to ensure that its corrupt PPP ministers and leaders were taken to task.

Briefing the media after the meeting, Jatoi said it had mutually been decided to not sit idle and pressure the provincial government into giving complete policing powers to Rangers.

Jatoi said it had also been decided to compel the provincial government to extend Rangers’ powers throughout the province.

Sadrudding Shah said all opposition parties were united against the PPP government and ready to give it a tough time.

“A manifesto of the opposition alliance has also been drafted and will be announced on January 9 in its next meeting,” he added.

Jatoi said the PPP was no longer Bhutto’s party and corrupt mafias were active in destroying peace and harmony in Sindh.

Safdar Abbasi, who leads a dissident group of the PPP, said Sindh was being ruled by corrupt people sitting outside country.

Without mentioning any name, he said these corrupt people had held the PPP hostage for their own vested interests.
