PESHAWAR: Some 26 students were awarded gold and silver medals for the distinctive performance in the Secondary School Certificate Examination last year.
The awards were given at a ceremony held at a hotel here on Tuesday. Provincial Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education Mohammad Atif Khan was the chief guest on the occasion. The ceremony was also addressed by chairman Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Peshawar, Dr Mohammad Shafi.
The chief guest also inaugurated Optical Marks Recogniser (OMR) system at the Peshawar board on the occasion. The award winning students included 14 girls and 12 boys. In his speech on the occasion, the provincial minister threw light on the steps taken by the promotion of education in the province.
He said that the provincial government was encouraging the students as well as teachers for showing better performance. The award distribution ceremony was one such example, he added.
He further said that the principals of schools were given a cash prize of Rs100,000 and Rs50,000 for the best performance of their institutions. Similarly, action was taken against 7000 students for their poor performance in the public sector schools. Dr Shafi talked about the performance of BISE, Peshawar.
