LAHORE

Former Punjab Governor and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leader Chaudhary Muhammad Sarwar has said that anti-corruption grand alliance in Pakistan is necessary for the country.

He said a grand operation against corrupt people was the need of the hour. He also said statistics revealed that the next budget would be discriminatory and exploitative for the poor people and would be called 'draconian budget.'

He said this while addressing a women convention of the party on Tuesday. Perveen Sarwar, Fatima Usman, Neelam Irshad Sheikh, Tanzila Imran, Saima Kamran, Saima Shokar, Sarwat Shujah, Syed Hina and Dr Javeria were also present. Referring to reports of 1,000 rapes and 100 gang rapes during the last one year, he said it was a manifestation of bad governance by the government.

He said that Punjab was unsafe for women. He asked where were the institutions responsible to protect people?  Muhammad Sarwar said the government was claiming to legislate women protection laws in the country, but in reality, Punjab witnessed more incidents of rape and violence against women  than any other provinces of Pakistan.
