Pak-Afghan territory shouldn’t be used against each other: Sartaj

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz said on Monday that the territory of Pakistan and Afghanistan should not be used against each other.

Sartaj Aziz said this in a meeting with the Afghan ambassador in Islamabad to discuss the situation arising after the May 21 US drone attack in Balochistan that killed Afghan Taliban chief Mulla Akhtar Mansour. Sartaj expressed serious concerns over the US drone attacks, stating that Pakistan and Afghanistan should not allow the use of their soil against each other.

Both also discussed bilateral ties, the border situation the Afghan reconciliation process. According to officials, several matters of importance were discussed during the meeting including the fate of Afghan peace process following the death of Mulla Mansour.

The meeting comes few days after Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif met US Ambassador David Hale to express Islamabad’s serious concerns over the drone strike in Nushki district of Balochistan. 

Last week’s military statement said that General Raheel Sharif denounced such acts of sovereignty violations as detrimental to relations and counterproductive for the ongoing peace process. He insisted that Pakistan’s efforts, successes and sacrifices in fight against terrorism have been unparalleled.
