NAWABSHAH: Non-allocation of budget by the federal and provincial governments for children’s education and health is a matter of great anxiety. This was stated by the members of a local NGO in a pre-budget press conference here on Sunday.
Dua Fatima, a student of the Government Quaid-e-Azam Girls High School, said that after the 18th Amendment the government had promised to constitute the Child Rights Council but the promise was not fulfilled. She said that the percentage of children in the total population was 48 percent but the state of education in the country was in dilapidated condition. She said that 77 percent school buildings were not in good condition. She said that more than 3.8 million children lack basic education while ghost teachers were not ready to discharge their duties despite untiring efforts of the Department of Education. She demanded an increase in the budget for children, adding that measures should be taken to ensure that it was used for the benefit of children.
