QUETTA: The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), General Raheel Sharif, on Thursday said that the Operation Zarb-e-Azb against terrorists was still going on as more work was needed to be done to eliminate terrorism from the country.

He appreciated the security institutions for nabbing the networks of foreign spies.

He said, “No military in the world has been able to synergise its effects as much as the Pakistan Army has single-handedly.”

Addressing the participants at the Command and Staff College here, General Raheel said he was proud of commanding a dynamic and resolute force, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa quoted the COAS as saying.

During the address, the chief of the army staff emphasised Pakistan’s resolve as well as determination to confront the global phenomenon of terrorism and extremism.

Delving into details regarding the ongoing Operation Zarb-e-Azb, the army chief said it had now entered the combing stage. He explained how they had transited from hardcore kinetic operations to intelligence-based operations and now combing operations had been launched, the DG ISPR quoted the army chief as saying.

However, referring to the conclusion of operations, General Raheel said there was still a lot of work left to do in order to reach the final objective.

Earlier, the army chief arrived in Quetta for a day-long visit where he visited the headquarters of the Southern Command for an operational and security review.
