No one can dare take resignation from Nawaz until proven guilty: Asfandyar

KARACHI: Awami National Party chief Asfandyar Wali Khan on Tuesday said that no one could dare take resignation from Nawaz Sharif until he was proven guilty.  The ANP chief expressed these views in the Geo News programme “Capital Talk” on Tuesday night.

He said that charges are leveled against everyone in Pakistan. Giving punishment to someone only on the basis of allegations is not justice and democracy. "I will be the first person to hold Nawaz Sharif accountable if he is proven guilty. Corruption will not be eliminated from the country by doing the accountability of Nawaz Shairf and his family only."

He said there was no minus-one formula in politics. "Maulana Fazlur Rehman cannot break the alliance formed by the opposition parties."  Wali admitted that he had talked to Asif Ali Zardari over phone several times but no political matter came under discussion. "Offshore companies should not be restricted to the Panama Leaks only and writing off loans is also a form of corruption."

The ANP chief claimed that governments at the Centre and the provinces will complete their terms. He was of the view that abolition of the federal democratic system would be the beginning of the destruction of the country. He suggested a joint operation Zarb-e-Azb by Pakistan and Afghanistan if they both wanted to move forward, saying the Noshki drone attack had halted the Afghan peace process.

While dismissing the notion that Maulana Fazl had tried to persuade him to accompany him to London, Wali said the JUI-F chief had visited him to inquire about his health. "There is no truth in the news claiming my departure to London."
