The director of the Polyclinic Extension Project was asked Monday to complete the process for approval of proposed designs of the hospital building within the shortest possible time so that actual construction work can be started.

“The earth-breaking ceremony of the project will be held very soon, with the Prime Minister as the chief guest,” minister of state for Capital Administration & Development Division (CA&DD) Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry stated while chairing a meeting of the Steering Committee on Polyclinic Extension Project.

Dr. Tariq said, under the Polyclinic Extension Project, a 1200-bed state-of-the-art hospital is proposed to be built where modern world class medical facilities would be available to the common man.

Shortlisted engineering and design firms presented details of their proposed designs for construction of the hospital building. The best amongst the proposed designs would be selected and final award of contract will be done after completion of technical and financial assessment of proposed designs according to procedures notified by the government.

The Steering Committee was briefed that during the first phase of the project, a new building is proposed to be built on the recently acquired land of Argentina Park so that the existing hospital can be shifted to the new building. In the second phase, new blocks will be constructed at the place of existing old building.

Secretary CA&DD Hasan Iqbal, additional secretary, ED Polyclinic, project director and officers from Pak PWD attended the meeting.
