Peace body head, cop shot dead in Swat

MINGORA: Unidentified armed men shot dead a village defence committee chief and a cop in the Swat’s Kabal tehsil, official sources said on Monday.

They said that unknown gunmen sprayed Mohammad Khan, the chairman of the village defence committee, also known as the peace body, with bullets in broad daylight in Bara Bandai village in Kabal tehsil.

A cop identified as Bakht Baidar was also killed in the firing while another policeman Bilal Khan sustained injuries.The bodies and the injured were shifted to the Saidu Sharif Central Hospital.The police and security forces clamped curfew in the area and launched a door-to-door search operation to hunt down the attackers.

Around 40 suspects were arrested during the search.Kabal was one of the strongholds of the Swati Taliban before the military operation against them in 2009. Two bombs defused in Charsadda: The police on Monday defused two bombs planted at the road leading to the District Police Lines, official sources said.

The sources said that unidentified persons had planted two bombs on the road which leads to the District Police Lines.The police spotted the bombs and called the bomb disposal unit (BDU) for defusing the explosives. The BDU official said that each bomb was 7 kilograms.
