The Sindh chief minister approved a summary on Monday for the release of Rs18 billion that would be spent on the construction, repair, and maintenance of roads and other civic projects in Karachi

A spokesman for Sindh Local Government Minister Jam Khan Shoro said that Syed Qaim Ali Shah had on Monday approved the summary for release of funds recommended by the LG minister.

As per details, the projects to be undertaken with the approved funds include construction, repair, maintenance, and widening of 13 roads, one bridge, and an underpass in the city.

On May 17, Jam Khan Shoro had announced that a sum of Rs10 billion would be allocated for Karachi’s ongoing, as well as soon to commence developmental projects, in the upcoming budget , while Rs200 million were to be allocated for the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB).

Accompanied by Home Minister Sohail Anwar Sial and PPP MNA Faryal Talpur, the local government minister, while addressing a press conference at the Civic Centre, had stated that new projects included construction of two underpasses, one near Star Gate and another in Lines Area, near wholesale market Metro.

With respect to issues related to local bodies’ management, Shoro demanded of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to return the money it apparently took away from the budget allocated for district municipal corporations (DMCs) for they were facing difficulty in paying their staff’s salaries.

Earlier in the month, CM Shah had also approved a Rs1.97 billion special package for Karachi to repair important roads, upgrade main roundabouts and footpaths, and also provide equipment to KMC-run hospitals.
