Islamabad: The Islamabad chapter of Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Associations (FAPUASA), on Friday stressed for the respect of the autonomy of universities.

In a FAPUASA meeting held at Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), Islamabad, it was resolved that the statutory bodies of the universities and their decisions must be respected by all stakeholders including Higher Education Commission (HEC).

The participants were of the opinion that the autonomy of universities should be respected according to the legal frameworks provided by respective governments through acts of assemblies.

The meeting was attended by the office-bearers of Academic Staff Associations and representatives of federal universities. It was suggested that the statutory bodies of the individual universities like Board of Governors, Syndicate, Senate, etc. should be strengthened by ensuring the fair and equitable representation of faculty. The participants recommended that the Boards of Governors and Trusties of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) should be restructured to include faculty members for democratic and transparent decisions.

Deliberating on the endorsement of Tenure Track System (TTS), it was decided that criteria and procedure of universities approved by their respective bodies should be adopted in letter and spirit by stopping the illegal practice of endorsement by the HEC. The letter by the Consultant of HEC on TTS appointments was declared as unethical and unprofessional by all academic and administrative parameters. They said that Advanced Increments is the right of the faculty based on their qualification and performance and must be paid accordingly.
