‘Firefighters heroes of our society’

VEHARI: The International Firefighters Day was observed to remember the firefighters who lost their lives while protecting the people here on Wednesday.

In this connection, a seminar was organised which was chaired by District Emergency Officer Dr Farzand Ali. Addressing the seminar, Dr Farzand Ali said that firefighting was a respectable profession across the world. He saluted those fire fighters who lost their lives while performing duty. He said that in the developed countries, the main focus of the fire and rescue services was fire prevention therefore local departments should come forward to establish safer communities in Pakistan. He said that fire fighters were regarded as heroes of the society in the developed countries. He added that the control room received 8,451 calls during the last month. He said that 982 calls were emergency calls and out of which 290 were of road accidents, 42 of fire incidents, 41 of medical emergency while 609 calls were about other incidents. Dr Farzand added that 164 affectees were given first aid by our professionals while 804 were shifted to the DHQ Hospital. He said that the response time remained seven minutes. He said that rescue Jawans were fully equipped and trained to face any challenge during the expected flood in the River Sutlej.
