Rawalpindi: The residents have their concern over the wrongdoings of the ‘tandoor’ (oven) owners of various areas who not only have decreased the standard weight of ‘rotis' (bread) but are also charging extra rupees instead of the price fixed by the local administration.

A survey conducted by this correspondent revealed that most of the residents were of the view that the ‘tandoor’ owners are not following the directives of the local administration with regard to the weight and price of ‘roti’ (bread).

The official rate of ‘pateri’ and ‘khameri roti’ weighting 120 gram is Rs6 and Rs7 respectively, but the residents have complained that the ‘tandoor’ owners have removed rate lists and are trying to charge extra prices.

Tahir Abbasi, a ‘tandoor’ owner in New Parhia, said the gas and electricity tariff besides prices of polythene bags, fine flour and sesame seeds have gone up manifolds and they are finding it hard to cover their losses.

He said the local administration should initiate negotiation with the ‘tandoor’ owners and introduce new prices of ‘roti’ keeping in view the increased prices of gas and electricity.

Rashid Malik, a resident of Satellite Town, said the government reduced the petroleum prices drastically on number of occasions but no one including the ‘tandoor’ owners are ready to pass on its benefits to the people.
