‘3,132 hardened criminals arrested in four months’

Punjab IG Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera took certain decisions to handle the issue of stolen vehicles and maintenance of criminals’ record during an RPOs conference on Wednesday.

The conference decided to prepare lists of buyers in other provinces of stolen cars from Punjab and to take up this matter with the government. It was also decided that the photographs of the recovered valuables, stolen vehicles, motorcycles and of missing persons, unidentified dead bodies, and domestic servants involved in thefts and POs will be uploaded on the website of the Punjab Police. Besides, the decision of handing over the monitoring/handling and other affairs of fourth schedulers to the CTD was also finalised.

The conference reviewed in detail the overall crime situation of the last four months from January to April 2016. On this occasion, IGP was told that under recently launched a special campaign to arrest the POs across Punjab, 3,132 hardened criminals have been arrested so far by the police through Criminal Tracking Facility (CTF). He was told that the police also recovered during the period 2600 vehicles and 4300 stolen motorcycles from the criminals. IGP directed the field officers to start a strict and meaningful action to stop these theft activities. 

The conference also reviewed the performance regarding the implementation of promulgated ordinance under National Action Plan across the province from January to April 2016. The IGP was told that under the violation of sound system regulation ordinance 2015, 1841 cases were registered, 1744 were arrested, 1471 challans were submitted and 704 persons were convicted. Similarly, under the violation of Prohibition of Walls (Amendment) Ordinance 1995, 369 cases were registered, 325 were arrested, 363 challans were submitted and 109 persons were convicted.

Under the violation of Information of Temporary Residents Ordinance 2015, 3343 cases were registered, 5253 were arrested, 2343 challans were submitted and 920 persons were convicted. Similarly, under the violation of Security of Vulnerable Establishments Ordinance 2015, 1310 cases were registered, 1094 were arrested, 664 challans were submitted and 67 persons were convicted, whereas, under the violation of Hate Material Cases Section 9 & 11-WATA, 277 cases were registered, 351 were arrested, 321 challans were submitted and 89 persons were convicted.

Decision to continue the Intelligence Based Operations (IBOs) and police search and sweep operations in wake of Gulshan-e-Iqbal incident was also finalised in the conference.

All field officers were directed to expedite the pending welfare case of the force so that their issues in this regard will be settled amicably and the relief must be ensured for the widows and the remains of the died and Shaheed officials.

It was also decided that under the Wed Lock policy of the government all posting and transfers must be accelerated for their final settlement. To boost up the morale of the police force, it was also decided that on coming Monday all field officers will hold police darbars at police lines in their respective regions and districts and it would be the regular feature at their part.

Keeping in view the security measurements during forthcoming holy month of Ramazan, it was decided that the proposals and recommendations must be prepared by the field officers particularly, the security of the mosques, Imambargahs and other worship places of the minorities across the province. These officers were also directed that the final security operational strategy will be finalised in the next meeting with them.
