FBR announces cash awards for providing info, seizure of such vehicles in KP

PESHAWAR: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced cash awards for those providing information and officials seizing the non-custom paid (NCP) vehicles in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Sharing the details of the FBR notification, an official said that the Customs officials impounding tempered vehicles would also be paid cash awards.The amount of the cash award will equally be distributed among the officials seizing any NCP or tampered vehicle.

He said the Customs officials have traced the trail by which these luxury and pricey NCP vehicles are brought from Balochistan to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Therefore, the FBR took the measures to stop the transportation of these vehicles to the province, he added.

The official said that 90 percent of the NCP vehicles were being brought from Zhob in Balochistan and shifted to Dera Ismail Khan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He added the vehicles were then brought via Lakki Marwat, Kohat and Peshawar to Malakand division.

The official said that according to a moderate estimate around 3,000 NCP vehicles are brought to Malakand every month and for each vehicle the agent charged Rs100,000.

He added that the FBR had announced the cash awards for the officials seizing such vehicles and those providing information leading to the location and seizure of the NCP vehicles to discourage the business that was causing millions of rupees loss to the exchequer.

“The identity of the informers would be kept secret,” he said.The FBR announced that officials seizing Toyota Land Cruiser and BMW would be awarded a Rs150,000 while the informer providing information on these vehicles would get an award of Rs55,000.

It declared that the seizure of Toyota Surf and double cabin pickup trucks by the Customs officials would earn them Rs140,000, while the informer would be given Rs40,000.

The officials seizing the non-customs paid van will be awarded Rs90.000 while the informer will get Rs33,000. The seizure of normal family car or executive Corolla and cars of other makes by the Customs officials would make them eligible for an ward of Rs60,000. The informers in such cases would get Rs22,000.

The officials seizing a tampered vehicle will get Rs12,000 cash award while an informer providing information will be rewarded Rs5,000.The Customs Department has also established a dedicated check-post at Shergarh to check the NCP vehicles being transported to Malakand division via Mardan and Charsadda.
