The curriculum, particularly of Islamic studies, being taught in our educational institutions is sowing the seeds of extremism and prejudice in the minds of our younger generation instead of broadening their spectrum of thinking. To offset these negative effects, we need a very strong and scintillating education system.
We are very fortunate in that there are still erudite and selfless people among us who have pointed out the ills afflicting different textbooks. Unfortunately, the authorities concerned are making no worthwhile efforts to rectify the problems. This simply defeats the purpose of meaningful education. In an age of information, there is no point in teaching obsolete ideas. Curricula, especially of the arts, should be thorough scrutinised and all topics that promote hate, prejudice, extremism, etc, removed from textbooks. We need textbooks that promote unbiased and accurate knowledge.
