Rawalpindi: The students of Indus Valley School of Learning observed the International Water Day here on Tuesday. In attendance were members of the National Cleaner Production Centre Foundation. The students were well informed about the occasion and were thoroughly prepared for the event.

They shared about the importance of conserving water and why it is also necessary for us to purify the water we use. The subcontinent, which Pakistan is part and parcel of, has a huge human population which is in dire need of water for their day to day activities .The reality of the matter is that this necessary commodity is declining day by day thanks to the activities of man.

The students informed about the harmful effects of polluted water on human and aquatic life. They mentioned the Indus River Dolphin which is the second most endangered cetacean in the world. It has suffered a lot from pollution that the specie was has been rendered blind by the toxins dumped into the river. They also talked about the pollution in the oceans where millions of waste products have been dumped and the ways in which we should try and reverse this trend so as to secure the earth for our future generations to come.

The guests from the National Cleaner Production Centre shared ways that the earth could salvage its dwindling water resources and also informed the students about simple steps they can implement to minimise the waste of water at home. Rain water harvesting was mentioned as a way to trap more water into the system but care needs to be taken as due to the harmful pollutants present in the air that may lead to acid rain which in turn could contaminate any food cultivated using this water.
