Women leading education, other sectors: governor

Governor Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana said women are taking a lead in the field of education and their role in other sectors is also praiseworthy.

He said government has taken laudable measures for the progress of women under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

He said this while addressing a ceremony organised by the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) on the International Women’s Day 2016 at Governor's House. The Punjab governor also paid tributes to the achievements of women.

He said Punjab government has also undertaken an effective legislation for ensuring the rights of women in inheritance. “Women day is an historic even that demands the need to change our attitude and approach towards the gender discrimination”, he said appreciating the Regional Chairman FPCCI Mian Rehman Aziz and Vice-President Syed Muhammad Aasim for organising a momentous International Women’s Day 2016 event. He said it was encouraging to see that the corporate sector is working for social sector.

He also appreciated the UN-Women, APWA and other social welfare organisations' efforts for women empowerment.

Saira Afzal Tarar, State Minister for National Health Services, Government of Pakistan said the goal of development cannot be achieved without the practical participation of women in the economy.

Rehman Aziz Chan, Regional Chairman and Vice-President FPCCI, said women day celebration is an acknowledgment as women are contributing their best in all walks of life e.g. politics, media, legal profession, commerce and business, banking, information technology and the armed forces.

Dur-e-Shahwar, Chairperson FPCCI, Regional Standing Committee on Women Empowerment and Development, said Pakistani talented women have proved their mettle all over the world. She applauded the Punjab government and said passing of Women Protection Bill is a milestone towards raising the women status that addresses substantial women's protection against various forms of the ill-treatment, which is widespread in the society.

PHC: Punjab Healthcare Commission (PHC) chief operating officer Dr Mohammad Ajmal Khan has said for the health safety of patients and general public there is a dire need to implement the Hospital Waste Management Rules 2014. 

He was speaking at a consultative meeting to take on board the stakeholders / healthcare providers to discuss and devise way forward regarding the issues hampering implementation of Punjab Hospital Waste Management Rules (PHWMR) 2014.

Dr Ajmal Khan said all public and private hospitals would have to follow the Minimum Service Delivery Standard (MSDS), designed by Punjab Healthcare Commission in this regard, adding that a firm system of hospital waste collection, segregation, storage, transportation and disposal should be adopted and implemented by all hospitals and healthcare establishments. 

PHP: The Punjab Highway Patrol claimed to have arrested 30 criminals having illicit arms and reunited eight children with their families. 

In a special crackdown on the instruction of Addl. IG/PHP Amjad Javed Saleemi, the PHP team recovered 19 pistol 30 bore, 5 pistol 9mm, 4 gun 12 bore, 1 gun 32 bore, 1 gun 222 bore and 417 bullets after arresting 22 criminals namely Ghulam Husain, M Madni, Umer Draz, M Imran, Waqas, M Riaz, Asfand Yar, Liaqat Ali, Hasan Ali Raza, M Hafeez, M Farooq, Javed, Umer Hayat, Ali Raza, Bilal Azhar, Umair Khalid, Amanullah, Khalid Husain, M Hanif, Asghar Ali, Zafar Iqbal, Allah Ditta, Khan, M Ameen, Shukat Ali, Asif Ali, Mazhar Husain, Waseem, Mujahid Iqbal and Subtain.
