The Higher Education Commission has recently unveiled its Higher Education Institutions’ Ranking List for 2015. This list has caused an uproar in the academia for various reasons. The ranking is being considered dubious because some of the universities that do not even properly perform their basic function of educating students have been ranked on higher positions.
Those universities that are performing comparatively better in terms of providing proper education, better teaching facilities, publishing quality research papers and producing intelligentsia have either been ranked inferior or not even included in the list. It seems that merit has not been taken into consideration while compiling this list. The HEC needs to drastically improve its evaluation system and avoid making rankings that contradict ground realities. The current ranking list has given rise to doubts about the evaluation system for education in the country.
