Social Sciences Expo concludes on a high note

The second day of the Social Sciences Expo 2016 included a variety of activities for students in which they participated with keen interest. Students thronged different stalls to gather relevant information from universities they were interested in. The counsellors were seen guiding students on the courses and the benefits they could get from their programmes for higher studies, nationally and internationally.

The main activities of the expo on the second day included an international conference, a quiz competition on ‘War and Peace since 1945 and International Relations since 1945’, a panel discussion on ‘Peace and Conflict’, National Book Foundation's book launching ceremony, a research methodology workshop for young social sciences faculty, ‘Awareness on Social Entrepreneur’, ‘Career Counselling in Social Sciences’, a panel discussion on ‘Academic Freedom on University Campus’ and a panel group discussion and workshop on ‘Impact of Meditation on Mind, Body and Soul’.

The workshop on ‘Flute, Alghoza and Rabab’ was attended by a large number of music aficionados in which musicians shared their success stories with students to motivate them to continue their quest for knowledge and learn skills. 

Embassy of Iran and Embassy of Turkey displayed their stalls under the 'Diplomatic Enclave' title that provided them an opportunity to interact with students for the promotion of their culture and provide relevant information regarding processing of visas and pursuing of higher studies. 

The panel discussion on the ‘Role of Media’ was held by the Abdul Wali Khan University. Scores of students and other visitors took special interest in the regional ‘Mushaira’.

Talking to ‘The News’, the representative of Bacha Khan University said that after the terror episode in the university, male as well as female students are more motivated to continue their studies after resumption of classes. "Terrorists have completely failed in their mission to scare us and now students are more motivated to study," the representative said.

A large number of organisations and universities set up their stalls related to their academic programmes. In order to encourage participation of youth, various activities, including workshops and competitions, were arranged. 

As the event was coming to an end, the results of various competitions were announced. In the 'Case Study' category, APCOM was awarded 1st  prize, NDU was awarded 2nd and FJWU was awarded 3rd  prize. In the panel discussion, Preston University was awarded 1st  prize, University of Haripur 2nd  prize and Swedish University was awarded 3rd  prize. In essay-writing, IIU was awarded 1st  prize, University of Haripur was awarded 2nd  prize and APCOM was awarded 3rd  prize. In poster competition, FJWU was awarded 1st  prize, University of Education was awarded 2nd  prize  and University of Haripur was awarded 3rd  prize. In painting competition, NUML was awarded 1st  prize, FJWU was given 2nd  prize and IIU was awarded 3rd  prize. In 'Business Plan' contest, Preston University was awarded 1st  prize, FJWU obtained 2nd  prize and APCOM was given 3rd  prize.

Three books of Major General (r) Mohammad Tahir namely ‘The Rising and the Setting Sun’, ‘Books That Changed My Life’, and ‘Pearls of Wisdom’ were also launched at the expo.
