This Valentine’s look desirable as stylist Raana Khan shares some exciting tips to get that perfect look...

Valentine’s Day is all about love and romance. The day for celebrating love is right around the corner and you are all busy selecting the perfect gift and preparing to spend a special time together! Everything is sorted out, but what you haven’t thought about as yet is how to go about your makeup, hair and how to dress up.

Of course, you want to look sophisticated yet sexy on Valentine’s Day. Well, fret not as there is still some time left. So, in order to achieve that perfect look You! talks to stylist Raana Khan who shares her expertise on what to wear on V-Day and how to do your makeup and hair. Read on to find out more...

Let’s Dress up...

According to Raana, the dress doesn’t have to be ‘just red’. “Your outfit can have a hint of pink or red. And if you have red shoes then there is no need to opt for red clothes, as accessorising with red is just enough to add some zing to your overall look,” recommends Raana.

For those who want to go for a red outfit then Raana advises to wear nude shoes - pumps or strappy stilettos - and go for a French manicure with it. You can add some jazz by wearing pearls or sparkly stones with your outfit.

Regarding eastern outfits, Raana is of the view that girls should make slightly embroidered outfits. “The colour to go for this Valentine’s Day can be a shade of pink or red. Make sure that you don’t go overboard with the embroidery. And choose a cut that complements your body type and height. These things seem unimportant but trust me the cut and fabric you choose can make a lot of difference,” she stresses.

“If you are into western outfits then you can opt for a bright pink top with jeans or a floral print maxi dress, nice white pants with a pretty top in a romantic colour like coral or red. While selecting a dress, go for a flowy material as it looks really nice,” shares Raana.

Let’s makeup...

Lay the foundation:

Start off with your base/foundation. According to Raana it is important to have a flawless base so that your face looks smooth and glowing. “The first thing to do is to moisturise and prime your skin before anything else. It helps the skin remain soft and supple. Please don’t apply layers of foundation. The ‘less is more’ rule definitely applies here. Use the right tone of foundation and blend it well. And apply translucent powder to achieve a flawless look,” suggests Raana.

Dramatic eyes:

According to Raana, “For the eyes go for a soft eye shadow like dull gold and beige. Apply winged eyeliner and lots of mascara to make your eyelashes voluminous. If you want a more dramatic touch, go for false eyelashes and you are all set to go.”

Blush away:

“Keep it all natural. You don’t want too much colour on your cheeks as you want your lip colour to stand out. After you are done with your foundation, apply light peach or baby pink blusher,” explains the stylist.

Paint them red:

“Red is classic and always looks nice. But as an option you can go for Fuchsia pink, deep plum or frosty pink lipstick,” tells Raana. Because red lip shade can stain your face if it spreads, so Raana advises to outline your lips with a slightly darker or same shade of red before filling it in with your lipstick. “Filling your lips in with the same lip liner will add intensity before you apply your lipstick on top,” she emphasises.

Nail affair:

Let’s not forget our nails. It is important to paint your nails on V-Day.  Raana vouches for pastel nail colours like baby pink, pale yellow, solid white or French tips.

Tress talk:

For your hair just wash and get a voluminous blow-dry. However, if you want to sport a different look then go for tonged hair tied into a soft up do.

Raana reveals

You! How do you plan to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year? Have you planned any surprises for your beloved?

Raana Khan: We never plan anything but we end up doing something for each other. We exchange presents and mostly go to a nice place for dinner.

You! What will you wear this V-Day?

R.K: I believe that you don’t have to prepare yourself for Valentine’s Day. All you need to do is style your hair for this special day, wear a nice bright lipstick and red nail polish, pretty heels with any outfit and you are good to celebrate Valentine’s Day. I don’t even mind wearing a black outfit on this day.

You! What gift did you get last year?

R.K: Last year I got flowers, my favourite perfume and planned  a vacation for next week after Valentine’s Day.

You! Your most memorable Valentine’s Day?

R.K: Every year it gets more special as our bond gets stronger. Can’t think of a particular one but every Valentine’s Day is special in its own way.

Tips by the expert

  • If you want your makeup and lip colour to last longer then use a primer before you start make up or just use ice. Use matte lipstick, it lasts longer and on top you can wear lip gloss.
  • For those who are going out for lunch with their loved ones can go for soft, bare eyes with a little mascara, less contouring and less powder. Pretty makeup, blended well in pinks and peachy shades are perfect for daytime.
  • If you want to transform your day makeup into night makeup add winged eyeliner. And wear a dark, bright lip colour for your night out!
  • A big No No on V- Day or any time of the year would be dark eyes and dark lips done together. So, steer clear from it.

So, when V-Day arrives and you are all dressed up, there is only one thing to do - go out and have a good time. Step out in style with your loved one and have the time of your life!
