Given Shiv Sena’s propensity to create unnecessary issues out of Pakistani artists crossing the border for work, it comes as a relief that two distinctly different music names from Pakistan were able to perform in different cities across India without any hitch.

Given Shiv Sena’s propensity to create unnecessary issues out of Pakistani artists crossing the border for work, it comes as a relief that two distinctly different music names from Pakistan were able to perform in different cities across India without any hitch.

Pop-rock music group from Karachi, Raeth - who found success years ago with the smash hit ‘Bhula Do’ – resurfaced in Kolkata this week and performed to a packed house at a city college on Sunday. Spearheaded by vocalist Wajhi Farooqi, the band collaborated with Indian musicians on stage and experimented with their sound by merging the genre of dubstep with other styles.

With two albums under their belt, this young band has its eyes set on the colourful world of Bollywood. In a conversation with Times of India, co-founder of the band, Sunny Ghansham revealed that a new album is not a priority for the band. “Bollywood is the game changer and we want to work there now,” Sunny told Times of India.

And it seems that Raeth is well on its way to making a space for itself in Bollywood. So far, they have three Bollywood singles to their credit including one in Mahesh Bhatt’s  Hamari Adhuri Kahaani.

While Raeth played their experimental pop rock-meets-dubstep style variations on stage, ghazal maestro Ghulam Ali, who made news last year after Shiv Sena threats led to a cancellation of his concert in Mumbai, played a show in Lucknow and this time around, the show went off without any looming political intimidations or threats whatsoever.
