Are you Ramazan ready?

We’re heading into a very hot and humid month of Ramazan but thanks to the ever vigilant fashion industry, the heat doesn’t necessarily equate to style trauma. Your lawn joras may still be sitting with your tailors, but ladies, it’s time to move on and think about Ramazan, iftaaris and Eid specific clothes.

The month of Ramazan is around the corner and our fashion feed is already shifting from lawn to Eid wear.

So, are you already budgeting for the next two months? Of course you are! With Ramazan around the corner followed by Eid, wardrobe woes are bound to be on the top of your list because any number of clothes just won’t be enough. And while run-of-the-mill kurta shalwars are aplenty, finding fashionable Eastern wear is no easy feat. Lucky for you, designers are two steps ahead and have season specific collections ready to hit the stores anytime.
Here are some of our favourite, making Ramazan and Eid shopping easy for you…

Sania Maskatiya

“Ramazan is our biggest season and we start preparations well in advance,” Sania Maskatiya shared with us. Ramazan centric collections have already started to trickle into the store, where you’ll find a variety of cotton and cotton-net, lightweight and breathable linens (ideal for Karachi) and silks. “We develop our own fabric and prints,” she added, “and will have six to seven different lines.” Ramazan collections are, of course, a continuation of the brand signature but they differ in the way that you can buy dupattas as separates with any outfit. “We’re playing with textures and cuts this season,” Sania informed, adding that you could expect a lot of white, cream and gold but also pastels and bolder colour themes. “We really need to have the full spectrum because it’s hot all year around and women are looking for variety. We always tweak our best sellers to make them more Ramazan appropriate.”

Sana Safinaz

Sana Safinaz is one brand that has made a conscious effort of adapting luxury wear to affordable retail wear for the masses. Each year the brand launches a sublime, silk collection consisting of a myriad of unstitched options with jewel encrusted laces and heavily embroidered shirt panels. This year, however, the brand has upped the ante and is launching a formal luxury wear collection that will feature a range of fabrics, from cottons to nets, in a bold and bright colour palette. With a significant attention to craftsmanship and featuring work that not only includes their signature gold tilla designs but also aari work, floral jaal and machine threadwork, complemented with silk chattapatti borders as well as embroidered organza ones, the collection offers a diverse set of options that can take you from day to night. While there is no update on the prices yet, the collection will officially launch on May 28 so keep a look out for the catalogue.

Sapphire

Sapphire has very rapidly become Pakistan’s favourite high street brand and that promises to continue through summer, Ramazan and eventually Eid. “We have a huge lawn volume coming out for Ramazan and Eid,” Khadijah Shah, Creative Director at Sapphire told Instep. Not only is the upcoming collection huge in terms of volume but the campaign, shot in Africa, is just as big. “The collection – for lawn as well as silk tunics – is more festive and it’ll come with a super campaign that was shot in Africa.” Additionally, Sapphire will be adding a variety of scarves and dupattas to be matched with the ready to wear tunics and they will also be introducing several different sorts of shalwars including the tulip and culottes.

Farah Talib Aziz

The designer has quickly become Karachi’s favourite home-based couturier, having a strong presence in Karachi’s social circuit as well as on the fashion week red carpet. While her outfits are a lot more exclusive and are not available at any store, the studio exhibitions are almost always a mad house for the sheer reason that the brand has stuck to its feminine, flora and fauna ethos and has built on it by using trendier, more contemporary silhouettes. This year’s Eid collection may not be too different in terms of the colour palette, which includes mostly pastel hues, and embroidery designs that centre around floral patterns and pearl embellishments, but there will be enough variety on cuts to make you stand out in the crowd. From dhoti shalwars and peplum jackets to structured tunics and organza wraps, this is a collection you don’t want to miss out on. The Karachi exhibition is on May  28.
