This past Sunday night, some of the biggest names in television descended at London’s Royal Festival Hall as the BAFTA Television Awards took off and gave fans, both in Britain and beyond, a lot to cheer for.

Unlike the fast pace of American shows, British shows are a lot more quiet, atmospheric and compact. Think Broadchurch and The Fall.

With no Sherlock on the horizon, the main award ceremony was dominated by BBC historical Wolf Hall which won the coveted drama prize as well as an award for its lead male star, Mark Rylance who beat out popular contemporaries Ben Whishaw (London Spy) and Idris Elba (Luther).

The only thing bigger than the awards was the coming together of two actors who are supposedly vying for the same James Bond role. The story first began last year when Daniel Craig expressed his fatigue at taking on the James Bond role for a fifth time. All this led to rumours that a new Bond is inevitable with actors Damien Lewis, Idris Elba and Tom Hiddleston, Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender suggested as potential contenders.

Their supposed rivalry was the highlight at the BAFTAs on Sunday where Hiddleston and Elba met, hugged and danced with each other as a delighted audience looked on. Of course, it was all made up and chances are Elba may snatch the role from Hiddleston whose short run as spy in The Night Manager has made him a much bigger star. For now though, look out for the boys in the third and concluding Thor film that should make its way to cinemas next year.
