Indian film director Kabir Khan, whose 2015 film Bajrangi Bhaijaan earned critical and commercial acclaim on both sides of the border, made quite a splash during his recent visit to Pakistan. In town for a marketing conference, the filmmaker landed in a spot of trouble when he was about to take off for Lahore. At the Karachi airport, Khan was mobbed by a group of protestors who accused him of making anti-Pakistan movies.

They started chanting slogans that were anti-India and pro-Pakistan.

Khan, who received an overwhelming response at the conference, didn’t react to the situation. He later took to Twitter and made a humble appeal to the media on both sides of the border. “To media on both sides: 12 screaming lunatics with a mobile phone camera is not news. Please don't give them the attention they want. Ignore,” he tweeted.

At a time when the two countries are collaborating on various levels, be it the entertainment industry or the corporate sector, despite political riffs and extremist elements on both sides, it is extremely disappointing to see people resort to such intolerant behaviour. Cultural exchange is the only way forward and one hopes such unwelcoming antics are not repeated again.
