Though several television shows have a political theme running through them like Scandal, House of Cards, Veep and Madame Secretary, no show has been able to beat Aaron Sorkin’s The West Wing that ran for seven years on NBC before going off air. Though several television shows have a political theme running through them like Scandal, House of Cards, Veep and Madame Secretary, no show has been able to beat Aaron Sorkin’s The West Wing that ran for seven years on NBC before going off air. Sharp, intelligent and optimistic, the show, with a brilliant cast, won plenty of Emmys and still remains a fan favourite.

Though there is no full-scale reunion on the cards, a mini ode to West Wing can be seen in an upcoming episode of Mom, the comedy show starring Allison Janney who also starred on The West Wing as Press Secretary/Chief of Staff C.J. Cregg.

According to reports, in an upcoming May episode, Janney’s Mom character Bonnie will find herself pondering over the question of a career. Executive producer Chuck Lorre, confirming the news, told TV Insider, “She recognizes her strengths are lying, wasting money and manipulating people. In other words, politics.”

As Bonnie dreams of being the president, she is joined in that particular sequence by Richard Schiff who essays the role of her Chief of Staff and starred on The West Wing as Toby Ziegler.

“They talk and walk quickly through the White House corridors in an homage to The West Wing,” says Lorre who understands the importance of the walk and talk sequence which remains a hallmark of Sorkin’s television projects, seen in almost all of his show like The Newsroom, Sports Night and even the short-lived Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.
