KARACHI: Member of Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) Rabita Committee, Waseem Akhtar late on Sunday hit back at Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Amir Sirajul Haq over his criticism of MQM.

In a statement issued here, he said the JI amir should focus on improving situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa instead of worrying about Karachi.

Akhtar declared Haq’s party responsible for prevailing wave of terrorism in KP and Pakistan.

“Despite being in power for the last seven years, what has Jamaat-e-Islami ever done for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa?” he questioned.

“Has the JI successfully eradicated terrorism from KP? ... Has the party gotten rid of extortion in the province?”

The JI amir had blamed flawed policies of MQM and ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) for nearly 1,200 deaths in Karachi due to heatwave.
