Panama leaks: ToR committee to meet today

ISLAMABAD: The parliamentary committee, which has been tasked to determined the terms of reference upon which the judicial commission will conduct an investigation into the Panama Papers' disclosures, will meet on Tuesday to in an attempt to remove the deadlock and reach a consensus. 

So far, seven sessions of talks have been held between the 12-member committee, which is comprised of both opposition and government members. The previous seven sessions have not yielded anything of substance yet, as a deadlock has threatened to turn the opposition away from the negotiating table and onto the streets.

Previously, PPP leader and Leader of the Opposition Syed Khursheed Shah had stated that PPP did not wish to partake in street politics or agitation. However, he said that if the terms of reference negotiations were not successful then the party would take the final decision.

Khursheed Shah had also stated that the government wants to delay every process by declaring it as a conspiracy. He also stated that the government should tell everyone what it has achieved during the past three years.

Opposition members have called a meeting of their own in which it would be decided what the course of action would be, if talks with the government were to fail again.

PTI chief Imran Khan has already been calling for Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to step down from the post of PM and present himself before an impartial judicial commission with the Chief Justice as its head.
