Three electronic toll plazas to be installed in Islamabad
Saturday, January 12, 2008
Islamabad

Three state-of-the-art electronic toll plazas would be made operational at three entry points to Islamabad in three months.

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has selected two companies which would install these toll plazas at Islamabad Highway, Kashmir Highway and I J Principal Road on built-operate-transfer (BoT) basis.

The two companies have prepared concept designs of toll plazas which would be presented before CDA Chairman Kamran Lashari and board members on January 17 for final approval. The toll plazas at I J Principal Road and Islamabad Highway would be of 4-lane, while a 6-lane toll plaza would be installed at Kashmir Highway.

CDA Director Special Projects Sanaullah Aman said that the toll plazas would include automatic weighing bridges, control rooms, road safety and signage work and security cameras. The system would also maintain data of drivers’ photographs and vehicle registration system.

The company would bear the entire cost of the project, including construction work, supply and installation of equipment, operation, management and maintenance of facilities.

The company would run the toll plazas for five years to collect toll as per approved rates after which the facility would be handed over to the CDA in a properly maintained and operational condition. During this period, the company would pay annual rent to the civic body.

The companies would also carry out landscaping work in the surroundings of toll plazas to beautify entry points to the federal capital.
