‘No foreign agencies have access to Nadra database’
Friday, March 12, 2010
ISLAMABAD: A spokesman for the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) said on Thursday that neither any foreign agency or consulate had access to the database nor the authority had provided any information to them.

“Nadra’s database is highly secured and allegations published in a section of the press claiming that the registration authority has given access to foreign consulates of the UK and US is totally baseless,” said the spokesman.

“The database is a national asset and a special system has been designed to ensure security of the data and even the local and provincial governments do not have access to it,” he said. He added that Nadra was strictly following the rules regarding the provision of information to the federal government and the local security agencies. He categorically denied the transfer of data or information to the FIA and said such news would sabotage the reputation of the authority, which was bidding for international projects.

He urged the local media to avoid publishing baseless news items, as it would serve no purpose and damage the credibility of the country. He also warned that Nadra had every right to take legal action against such baseless and misleading news items.
