 Association vows to revive film industry

LAHORE

In the biggest star-studded congregation of the Pakistan film industry in decades, the newly founded United Film Association of Pakistan (UFAP) vowed to bring back the golden era of the film industry with a lot of expectations and help from the government led by President Asif Zardari.

This was unanimously announced by all the major stakeholders of the devastated film Industry of Pakistan in a jam-packed oath-taking ceremony of the newly-established UFAP in PC hotel on Thursday, a grand initiative taken by the Pakistan film industry for its survival and revival.

All the known and unknown entities of the film industry of Pakistan converged at the venue to express solidarity and support to the newly-elected members of UFAP.

Speaking on this occasion, the chief guest Federal Minister Advisor to the Prime Minister Sardar Asif Ahmad Ali assured the Film Industry members that President Zardari has very positive things about the film industry in his mind and it’s his resolve and vision that film industry should grow. He suggested that instead of living on short-time measures, the film industry should stand upon its feet and added that in the start the industry should be given funds on subsidized interest rate. He said that there should be a National Film Association on ownership basis. He said that we should not be afraid of the Indian film industry at all since we have a lot of potential of our own. He said that joint ventures were a positive step and admired the two such joint ventures which included ‘Khuda Key Liye” and “Ram Chand Pakistani”. He said that the government was always there to do what ever it could.

Punjab Law Minister Rana Sana Ullah paid rich tribute to the Pakistan film industry stake holders for their awareness about their problems and assured that the Punjab Assembly has passed the resolution for exemption of Entertainment Tax tabled by PML-N’s Farah Deeba and the notification to this effect will, be issued in a day or two. He announced that the Punjab government was there to support and help the film industry and ready to sit with their representative for the solution to their problems.

The Chairman UFAP Mian Amjad Farzand Ali announced that as a producer he would take a lead and will make a film this year and also announced that the producers under the banner of the UFAP will give at least 8 to 10 good films to the viewers every year. He also revealed that Producer Mubasher Luckman is also making a film this year. He said that there has been a lot of rhetoric and promises but nothing has been done for the film industry in the last 15 years .Veteran Film Star Nadeem Baig said that Film industry is the only industry which has not brought any loss to any government or the country but has contributed in even its worst time to the government’s kitty. He said that moral, technical and financial support was a must for the survival and revival of the film industry. Film Star Javaid Sheikh said that he was a born optimist and continued to work even in the worst circumstances.

He stressed upon the need for new talent, technology and ideas. Asif Kahn , the veteran Urdu and Pashto films super star advised to make good films to save the thousands of families attached to this business .Mustafa Qureshi said that this day will be remembered in history as the day which changed the history and fate of the film industry. He said that nations are known by their culture. He said that to revive our film industry we should bring in new talent and polish the existing one. He pointed out that there is a sharp decline in the number of the cinemas which has dropped down to about 200 from 800 and it was because of the vulgar films which were made by some black sheep. He said that we should prefer Pakistani films on the Indian films and make our own good product. He condemned the IPL’s decision of keeping the Pakistani cricket players out of IPL and admired present government’s decision to make the betterment of the Pakistani Film Industry as a part of its Five Year plan.

Super Star Shan, Ghulam Mohiuddin, Bahar Begum, Nasir Adeeb, Reema Khan, Prof Ejazul Hassan and many others spoke on this occasion.

Earlier, Federal Minister Sardar Asif Ahmad Ali took oath from the newly elected members of UFAP which included Mian Amjad farzand Ali as Chairman, Mustafa Qureshi as Senior Vice President, Aslam Dar Vice Chairman, and Asif Khan Vice Chairman NWFP.

The Executive Body of UFAP includes Syed Noor, Bahar Begum, Altaf Hussain, Shan, Nasir Adeeb, Pervaiz Kaleem, and Zulfiqar Ali. The United Film Production, a part of the newly-formed UFAP was also announced and Ghulam Mohiuddin was elected as its chairman, Shan and Jamshed Zafar were announced as its Vice Chairmen. A large number of Pakistan Film Industry’s members’ attendee the function.
