Karachi
Owing to the swine flu threat, the government has installed latest thermal scanners at the Karachi Airport. The new scanners are also installed at different airports of the country including Islamabad, and Lahore.
Deputy Airport Health Officer Karachi, Dr Shehzad Naseem, said that Hajj pilgrims were expected to return after Eid-ul-Azha and there was a chance that they might be infected with swine flu.
In connection to this, the government has installed a thermal scanner at the Islamabad airport on Sunday whereas one scanner each was installed at Lahore and Karachi airport on Monday, he added.
He said that four more scanners would be placed at other airports. He mentioned that the scanner consisted of a 32-inch screen in which all people passing through its range could easily be visible. A circle mark will appear on the face of the person having high body temperature, he said adding an alarm will also start ringing. Dr Naseem said that the scanners were bought from Singapore. He said that the first return flight of Hajj pilgrims would reach Karachi on the night between December 2 and 3.
